  Welcome to the British Museum-a museum of the world, for the world. Explore the galleries, see a special exhibition and relax in the shops.

Visitor information

  Galleries are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Fridays, they are open until 8:30 p.m. (Please note that galleries start closing 10 minutes before the published closing times.)

  Sketching (画速写) with pencils is allowed in the galleries.

  Photography is allowed in selected galleries, for non-commercial uses.

  To help everyone enjoy the Museum, please:

● Keep mobiles in silent mode and don't take calls in the galleries.

● Don't touch the exhibits.

● Don't smoke.

● Don't eat or drink in the galleries.

  If you have any other questions, ask at the Information Desk.

Galleries

  Some of the galleries can be very busy at peak times. If you want to avoid the crowds, try visiting these galleries.

● Room 95: the largest collection of Chinese ceramics (陶瓷制品) outside China.

● Room 34: exhibits from the Muslim world, from the 7th century A.D. to the present.

● Room 1: the Enlightenment Gallery shows how the British Museum was created in the 18th century and is a great introduction to the collection.
