Ask students to talk about their past experiences of visiting museums.

Ask the following questions:

  一、 Have you ever visited an art museum? If so, what was your experience like?

  二、 What did you see in the art museum? How did you feel about what you saw?

  三、 What impresses you most in the museum?

  Encourage students to express themselves freely about their past experiences.

Step 2 Reading

1. Scanning and skimming

 Ask students to go over Reading and answer these questions:

* Which countries has Li Ming visited on his trip?

* How many days did they spend in Paris?

* Where are they going next?

Answers:

* Spain, France, Netherlands

* Four days

* They are going to another museum in Amsterdam.

2. Listening and careful reading

(1) Ask students to listen and read the text carefully and try to answer the following questions:

* What did Li Ming think about Malaga?

* What is cubism? Who developed it?

* What can be seen in the Louvre Museum?

* What did Da Vinci do besides painting?

* In which museum can you see Monet's works?

* Where is the Van Gogh Museum?

* In which city did Li Ming see Rembrandt's paintings?

Answers:

* He thinks Malaga is a lovely city and that the architecture there is beautiful.

* Cubism is a type of art developed by Pablo Picasso that represents things as geometric shapes.

* Mona Lisa.

* He was also a sculptor, an architect, an engineer and a scientist.

(2) Require students to discuss and find out the topic sentence of each paragraph.

(3) Ask students read the read the text again and fill in the following blanks.

Guide students to read a life story with the help of the time order and ask them to say something about a painter's life story.

Step 4 Consolidation and expansion

Ask students to discuss these questions with a partner, and make up a dialogue.

* What kind of painting do you enjoy the most? Why?

* Which art museum would you like to visit? Why?

Ask some pairs to present their dialogues.

Step 5 Homework

1. Ask students to read the text carefully and finish D and E (P.36-P.37).
