used to与would

1. used to和would的相同用法：

　　二者均可表示过去经常进行而现在不再进行的动作。如：

　　People used to come and visit him every day.

　　Occasionally she and Philip would go out and paint little pictures.

2. used to和would的不同用法：

★used to可以用于表示过去的状态，而would则不可以。如：

Joe used to be a waiter, but now he's a taxi-driver.（不能用would）

I used to have long hair, but I've got it cut.（不能用would）

★used to可用于无人称句和存在句，而would不可以。如：

It used to be said that the earth was flat.

There used to be a cinema here two years ago.

★used to不能跟表确定时间段的状语连用，而would可以。

He would sit there for hours sometimes, doing nothing at all.

注意：

used to的否定形式为usedn't to或didn't use to。

★used to表示过去的习惯动作或状态，现在已不存在，后跟动词原形。如：

We used to swim every day when we were children.

★be used to表示"习惯于......"时，后跟名词、代词或动词-ing形式。如：

The woman is used to loneliness.

I do the dishes every day, so I'm used to it.

I'm not used to being treated this way.

be used to还可以表示"被用来做......"，后跟动词原形。如：

The knife is used to cut fruits.

★get used to表示由不习惯到习惯的动态过程，意为"（变得）习惯于，开始习惯于"，后跟名词、代词或动词-ing形式。如：

I think it is a bit difficult for you to get used to the wet hot weather here.
