2.In Wilson's eyes, what will be done to the city is ________.

  A.acceptable B.popular

  C.unpleasant D.strange

  解析:选C 推理判断题。根据第四段Wilson说的话和第五段中的"It's a move that disappoints Wilson"可以推测,Wilson对于拆除Etzio这一做法感到不愉快。

3.What does the underlined word "it" in the text refer to?

A.The Etzio building. B.The old culture.

  C.Edmonton. D.The street.

解析:选B 代词指代题。倒数第三段中连续出现了四个代词it;我们先来分析第一个it:It makes Edmonton unique,这句中的It指代上一句中的Some of the old culture;接着的这句Without it, it just becomes another mall or it could be any other city in the world中的第一个it指代的也是the old culture,第二、三个it均指代Edmonton。该段的大意为:古老的文化应该保留下来,这些古老的文化使得Edmonton很独特;如果没有这些古老的文化,那么Edmonton这个地方就会变成另一个商场,或者和世界上的任何一座城市没什么区别。

  B

Newspapers are not nearly as popular today as they were in the past. There are not very many people who seriously read a newspaper every day. Most people only read the sports pages, the advice or the gossip columns,

he comics, and perhaps the classified advertisements. Most people don't take time to read real news. Newspapers attempt to catch the reader's interest with pictures and exciting headlines. These techniques are used on the front page because it is the first thing you see when you pick up the paper. The first page attracts attention and encourages the reader to look through the rest of the paper. This is why editors always look for a good first page story and a headline to make them stop and look. If the headline is horrible enough or frightening enough or wild enough, perhaps they will go on to read the front page. However, they may read the headlines, but that is all, then they turn to the sports page, or comics, or advertisements.

It seems that people do not want the news from a newspaper any more. They say they get the news on television now. More people watch television news because it is easier and more interesting than reading a newspaper. What about you? Do you read news from a newspaper? Do you think it is easier to get news from television? Or do you care about news at all? Would you mind if there were no news?
