The Princess and the Pea is a famous story written by Andersen. Now let's read it together.

 Long time ago, a prince wanted to marry a real princess, so he travelled around the world to fin d her. But he failed and went back sadly.

 One evening a terrible rain came. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. The queen went to open the door and saw a beautiful girl standing in front of the gate. Water was running down from the girl's hair and clothes. She said that she was a real princess.

 The queen asked her to come in. Then the queen went into the bedroom, laid a pea on the bed and then laid forty mattresses (床垫)on it. Then she asked the princess to sleep on the bed all night.

 The next morning, the queen asked the princess' feeling about her sleep.

 "Well" said the princess, "I couldn't close my eyes all night. I felt I was lying on something hard."

Then they knew that this princess was a real princess because she could feel the pea through the forty mattresses. Finally the prince married the princess, and they lived a happy life together.
