In 1996,doctors said American cyclist Lance Armstrong had only a 40 percent chance of living. He's done more than stay alive. He beat cancer and went to the top of one of the world's hardest sports.Armstrong is world famous for being fast on a bike.

"I used to ride my bike to make a living. Now I just want to live to ride."he said.Last Thursday, the United States Olympic Committee named Armstrong 2004's Sportsman of the Year. This is the fourth time he has won that award. The 32yearold got the award after winning the Tour de France for the fifth time in a row last year. The Tour de France is the longest and most famous bike race in the world. It covers more than 3,000 kilometers and takes more than 20 days.Riders from many countries take part each summer, but many never finish because of the hot weather and long, hard roads!

But Armstrong won.As a matter of fact, many people think he will win again this summer! He first did it in 1999 after coming back from cancer, and he hasn't stopped winning since then.Armstrong isn't getting any younger, but age hasn't slowed him down,"I have more gray hair, and I think I get out of bed slower than five years ago,but I feel fine, strong and ready to go."

If Armstrong wins this year's Tour,he will break a record. And he's not thinking about retiring."The only thing I know is that I feel as strong as ever, and there are still a lot of beautiful races to be won."
