S1: Unlike basketball, football or tennis, these sports are done outside. They seem to be exciting and thrilling. People use special tools to help them do these sports. They must be dangerous to some extent.

T: Yes. That is just the reason why I say they are special. Then, can you tell me the total name?

Ss: Extreme sports.

T: Right. Do you want to do these sports?

Ss: Yes, if we could.

T: OK. In the future, you can do these sports if you like. I know you spend your time studying, so you don't have any time to travel. But time permitting, you can go on an adventure travel and do extreme sports. You can go on many kinds of adventure travels. Today we'll feel some experiences of adventure travel ahead of time. Let's first look at Warm-up.

Show Ex1 on the PowerPoint and let students look at the screen and try to understand the Key Words themselves. Then, check comprehension of the Key Words by having students translate the words into Chinese. At last let students add these words to the Key Words and compare answers in pairs before checking them as a class. Encourage students to use full sentences when giving their answers.

T: Now you can look at the screen. First try to understand the meaning of these Key Words. For example, what does "volcano" mean?

S2: It means a mountain with a large opening at the top, and often others on the sides, through which melting rocks flow out.

T: Very good. What about "safari"?

S3: That is a trip through wild country, especially in east or central Africa, hunting or photographing big animals.

T: Yes. What about "canoeing"?

S4: Rowing on a long narrow boat.

T: Well done. Now add these words to the Key Words.

One minute later, check answers. Encourage students to use full sentences when giving their answers.
