Listening and speaking

The period places emphasis on developing students` listening and speaking abilities.

Important points:

(1). Develop students` listening and speaking abilities.

(2). Let them learn how to make phone calls and invitations and express thanks.

Difficult points: get the students to listen to the materials correctly and speak fluently by using the functional items requests and thanks.

Knowledge aims:

(1). The useful expressions for making a phone call.

May I speak to..... Can I ring back later? Hold / Hang on, please. I will ring him later / again. Just a moment, please. Sorry, he / she isn`t here right now.

(2). Invitations:

I wonder if you are interested in....., I would like to invite you to......., Would you like ...... Could you please.....? I am looking forward to ......., I would love to.......

2. Ask some students to translate the sentences into English.

　　Step 2 Warming up

Turn to the part of listening and speaking on page 6. first look at the pictures of the Trinidad Carnival and discuss what kind of activities the Carnival might have.
