  Step 3 Listening

  First, go through the directions and questions to make sure they know what to do. Then get them to do the exercises after they have listened to the materials.

  

  Step 4 Speaking

  Review the phrases used to make phones, invitations and showing thanks.

  Make a phone call to invite your friend to a Chinese festival according to the situation: you have just visited your friends in Trinidad and seen the Carnival.

  

  Step 5 Listening on page 41

  Look at the pictures and then do the exercises after having listened the listening materials.

Easter In which season? Who celebrates? The reason for the festival? On which day of the week? What things represent Easter?

  Step 6 Listening Task on page 45-46

  1. Talk with students about festivals such as Mother`s Day, Valentine`s Day, Easter, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and so on.

  2. Turn to page 45 to talk about the pictures.

  3. Turn to page 46 to do the exercises after they have listened to the materials.

  

  Step 7 Homework

  Finish off the Workbook exercises.

  Preview the passage A Sad Love Story and Winter Carnival in Quebec.

  

  

  The fifth period: Extensive reading

  

  The teaching emphasis will be put on developing students` reading ability by reading extensively. We will deal with two articles: A Sad Love Story in Using Language on page 7 and Winter Carnival in Quebec in Reading Task on page 44.

The purpose of A Sad Love Story is to introduce a cross-cultural view of lovers` festivals----Qiqiao Festival and Valentine`s Day.
